Hello! I just want to make a post to inform you, the reader, about some updates to the Asym mod. In its current state, the mod is essentially done aside from a handful of script-related issues that need to be resolved. If you or anyone you know is at all interested in helping us tackle some of these problems please let us know!

If you check out the screenshots, renders, and concepts sections you’ll find some new images (near the bottom of each page) of stuff we’ve completed. I’ve also included three new in-game screenshots in this post. This project has been quite an undertaking. If you’re interested in finding out why, stay tuned for updates!

Take a look!
Hello,

The grade440 dev team is currently seeking mapmakers to work on its upcoming total-conversion mod: Asym.

Our mod is a team based multiplayer game that melds aspects of online FPS gaming and MMO to create a unique and fun gameplay style.
The mod is currently around 75% complete, and now needs a library of completely custom maps for the Asym gametype.

The maps will be mostly terrain-based consisting of visually engaging environments with well balanced gameflow that fits the storyline and implements our custom gametype assets (already completed).

Position requirements:

-Enthusiastic about making maps for games, and able to work in a deadline-oriented environment.

-Have experience working with UnrealEd and a 3rd party 3D application (user preference).

-Have made several quality levels for UT2K4 that are readily downloadable.

-Ready to have fun working with the grade440 team.

Questions, Comments, and Interested Mappers contact our dev team at asymgame@gmail.com

Pablo Poffald will be helping out with game music and weapon modeling.
David Dyer will be weapon scripting for the many, many, many weapons in the game.
Help me out in welcoming them into the grade440 dev team!!!

In case anybody was wondering about the new gametype we’ve created in our mod, I’ve just posted a page that explains it. Our initial design was very free-form and appeared to be a big programming headache. Around early fall of last year, a few of us decided to scrap the initial design and we came up with what we have now. The new gametype is a bit of a combination of Onslaught, Domination, and Assault but it isn’t too complicated. If you’d like to know more, check out the gameplay page.

And by the way, we do have other team members. I just make most of the posts around here.

Our gallery is now working better than ever… but sadly, due to our inept web provider we are still missing a few of the old images. They should be uploaded soon.

The troop transport is operated by one driver and can hold several human and kovan soldiers in the main bay. Players can simply jump into the transport without “entering” it like they would most vehicles in Unreal Tournament. The driver controls the gull-wing doors which allow the players to fire from the transport freely — essentially making our first vehicle a rolling pillbox!

The idea is to have an attractive-looking interface that does not interfere too much with gameplay. There is a lot of important information the player will need during the action so we want to make sure to provide that, but not in a way that is distracting or overwhelming. The majority of the HUD is very translucent. Players will be able to see graphics underneath the various shapes and symbols though the important information will be left opaque. A little tweaking is needed before it’s complete, but it should be finished soon.

Check our booth here!

For our entry we did a ton of work getting our main level into working order, complete with static meshes, finished terrain, updated textures, working game scripts, and sounds both gameplay related and ambient. Overall, we have come a long way in the past 2 weeks to get the project to where it is.

I have posted some shots of our level in the screenshots section of our image gallery.
